WTF! News
A bunch of guys held a rally in front of Baltimore city hall by.....putting up large amounts of plastic flamingos in front of city hall. Now, one would think that would be ineffective or even illegal ,since that land is owned by the city, but in fact they actually got what they wanted after the protest. One should never question the political power of the pink plastic flamingo. Fear the flamingo!

Albums that I've been listening to lately
Pink Floyd: Animals

Sufjan Stevens: Greetings From Michigan: The Great Lake State
Radiohead: OK Computer

Artist of the Week: The Japandroids

Man, do I love the Japandroids. At first I did not like them that much, but over time they really grew on me. They have have a loud fuzzy guitar sound along with a pretty sick drum beat. I would consider them as an indie, garage, punk rock band with a minimalist sound. This is a two person band ,believe it or not, and they sure know how to pump up the music despite their size. They are a very new band from from vancouver and they released their first cd only a few months ago. They have received great praise from many music critics ,including me!, and seem to have a promising career ahead of them.
As for the cd ,Post Nothing, their songs seem kinda overwhelming and too loud at first, but as I continued to listen I grew to appreciate their sound I would advise you to listen to their songs on a high quality sound sytem, because low quality systems can make them sound like a jumbled mess. They may not be the most quality guitarist/singer and drummer in the world, but they perform ever song with such passion and energy that you can make you over look the some times questionable singing. The drummer ,I must admit, is one of the best drummers that I have heard in a while. He does sing in some of the songs, but the guitarist sings most of the lyrics and is a better singer overall. The japandroids draw their strength from their simplicity and their energy. They make you want to get up from your seat and start a mosh pit.
They cover a range of themes through out their songs ,from fear of death to "giving up on girls". Some songs like "Wet Hair" have a strong sense of silliness and for the most part they are joking aroundOne such examples of these lyrics are 'We run the gauntlet.Must get to France, So we can French kiss some French girls".

I admit the cd could use more production value for some of their songs, but they have all long journey of them and will most likely work on perfecting of their sound. Even though their production needs work, their current rawness has an appeal of it's own. I highly recommend them if you like energized and rough punk rock.
